Ed Goerling, middle, received a guided tour of the LST-325 from fellow Navy veterans Ed
Mumford, left, and Bob Rudy.
Veteran makes special
journey to see LST-325
Ed Goerling lives in Napre-
ville, 111. He lives with his wife in a
condo where a continental breakfast is served every morning.
Since the story ol LST-325 first
started, he has been commenting
to his friends at breakfast how
great it would be if he could be
on that voyage.
Naturally, he couldn't be on
the voyage, but the thought of
the trip took him back to his four
years on LST-1158. You sec Ed is
71 years old and his thoughts followed the trip of the 325 all the
way.
Then one of the ladies at the
condo felt that Ed should be in
Mobile to see the ship, so she
gave him an envelope with tSOO
in it and said, go!
Apparently, the weather was
such that Ed could not get away
until alter the 325 had already arrived. Ed caught a flight to Mobile and got a motel room in
Saraland. Then Ed walked a couple of miles to see the ship,
which was now docked in Chickasaw. We had a great visit and
gave Ed a tour of the 325, which
thrilled him immensely
This kind of story is repeated
day after day as veterans from all
service* hear about and come to
visit LST-325. Many, man;
ans. not just Navy veten
the opportunity to ride on an LST
at some time during their service.
